2008 HONORARY ALUMNI

Beth Grimes Flood

Our family moved to Bexley 24 years ago for its excellent public school system. My sons graduated from Bexley High School; Bill in 1989 and Michael in 1998. The family-oriented community life is what also brought us here and I have never looked back. I discovered the enthusiasm and dedication for the schools and city and found myself involved immediately. Participating in many activities and events has led to a very satisfying volunteer career.

Whether it was being president of the Maryland Avenue PTO, co-chairing a Bexley school levy campaign, or volunteering for a fundraiser, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed myself, and have formed lifelong friendships. I have been fortunate to participate and give my time to various causes and was honored to be selected Bexley Citizen of the Year in 2005.

My volunteer activities have reached beyond the Bexley community, but my focus has always been on helping children, advancing education, and supporting the arts community. For over twenty years, I’ve worked on behalf of the Childhood League. I’m a past president of the Women’s Board of the Columbus Museum of Art and I chaired the 1999 Decorators’ Show House for the group. I’m also a member of Twig 3 and the Pro Musica Sustaining Board.

In 2004, with the support of many friends and family, I raised $108,000 to establish the Pete Grimes “Just Do It” Endowment Fund with the Bexley Education Foundation, in memory of my late husband. Two leadership programs are funded annually with the interest earned by this fund. In three years, the Bexley High School “Leadership Bexley” program has given over 80 sophomores and juniors the opportunity to examine and develop their leadership skills during hands-on workshops. Bexley Middle School’s “Leadership Academy” has introduced 60 students to the qualities and attitudes needed to be a leader. Both programs are facilitated by leaders from our community and schools, who generously volunteer their time.
.
Currently I’m a member of the Governing Board of the Bexley Education Foundation and serve as the chair of the Planned Giving Committee. Our schools sometimes lack resources through tax dollars and through the BEF, funds are granted which significantly enhance the educational experience and continued top performance of all Bexley students.

Living in Bexley continues to be very enriching for me. My life has taken a new turn with my husband Tom, but I intend to stay involved in supporting our beautiful community and exceptional schools.

Thank you Bexley High School Alumni Association for this special honor.
