On December 17, 2005 Bob
Weiler, class of 1953, received an honorary Doctor of Humanities from
Capital University. Earl N. Metz, also class of 1953, had the honor of
being the Board of Trustees representative and read the official
citation. Earl says Bob then gave the commencement address, "including
some wonderful points that all but the dullest of the graduates will
remember for a lifetime." Earl went on to say that "seldom has an
honorary degree been more deserved."

Giving back to Columbus
Weiler served city schools well as interim board member
Wednesday, December 28,
2005
Bob Weiler has given a lot to Columbus for decades, and his latest stint
on the Columbus Board of Education, about to come to a close, was
another generous contribution.
As owner of the real-estate company founded by his father, Weiler has
played a key role in some of the most significant efforts to bring homes
and jobs to central Ohio.
He has served on many boards and commissions.
During his previous tenure on the school board, from 1985 to 1991, he
joined other community leaders to create I Know I Can, a volunteer
program that helps the city’s public school students manage complex
college applications and provides some financial support. Since then, I
Know I Can has helped thousands of Columbus graduates move toward
college and better lives.
Weiler, 70, certainly didn’t need the headaches that come with serving
on the school board, but when board member Loretta Heard died last
summer, Weiler was willing to step in.
By appointing Weiler to the remainder of Heard’s term, the school board
avoided giving an unequal boost to any of the candidates running on last
November’s ballot, and the school district got a steady, experienced
hand for the interim.
For that, Weiler deserves the community’s thanks.
