Bexley Mayor David Madison

Bexley Mayor David Madison has announced that he will step down at the end of his term in December, ending a 32-year run as the city's leader.

Madison, who served on the Bexley City Council for eight years before becoming mayor, said he will not seek re-election in November. "We just need some young people in here," he said. "It's time."

Four people have announced plans to run for mayor: Councilman Matt Lampke, Bexley Technology Director Bill Minckler, former Bexley school board president Eugene Weiss and William Harvey, a member of the Main Street Redevelopment Commission.

Madison, 75, said he plays poker with Harvey and considers him an "outstanding individual," but he did not endorse anyone.
