Todd Huffman, class of 1988, was named head women's basketball and softball coach for the University of Dubuque in August 2002. In his first year, Todd let the 2002-2003 basketball team to victories over the two best teams in the IIAC; a 77-69 win over 1st place Loras College, who was ranked #2 in the Western Region, and a 94-84 victory over the current 1st place team in the IIAC, Simpson College, in Indianola. Going into the game, Simpson held a lifetime record of 39-2 over UD. The team finished the season with an IIAC quarterfinal loss to #2 seed, Simpson College. UD went into the IIAC tournament playoffs as the #7 seed. At the start of the season, the team was picked to finish last in the IIAC. Instead, UD finished with a 12-14 overall record and 6-12 in the IIAC, which was good enough for a 7th place finish. Todd earned his bachelor
of social work degree from Capital University in 1992. He served as
head women's basketball and softball coach at Eastern University in St.
Davids PA for two years prior to joining UD, leading the team to a
divisional championship during the 2001-2002 season -- the first
championship of any kind in the program's history. Prior to his coaching position at Eastern, Todd held the position of head women's basketball and assistant softball coach at OSU's Newark campus from 1997 to 2000. At OSU, he coached the team to a state championship in 1999-2000 and received the honor of Coach of the Year.
