I had
two strokes, one affecting my eyesight and another affecting my
speech, so I’m sorry I didn’t get to my 60th reunion. I am starting
a new life here but I hope to receive the newsletter to keep up with
my classmates.

The
class held its 60th reunion in Bexley on June 18-19. Twenty-seven
of the class of 135 graduates attended. Bob Clark and his wife,
Nancy Weiffenbach Clark (also class 1950) chaired the committee that
planned and arranged the event. A dinner and reception were held
Friday night at the Bexley Monk. A Saturday brunch at the Columbus
Country Club included a memorial moment for the 40 classmates that
are known to have passed on, and a special tribute to Judah Folkman
’50, a physician and medical researcher who made landmark
contributions to medical science before his death in 2008. Folkman
was the graduation speaker at the commencement of the class of 2000
and a video of his commencement talk was shown. Following the
brunch, the group enjoyed a bus tour of Bexley, narrated by Ed
Hamblin, class of 1948.

Each
issue of our alumni association newsletter makes me more proud of
our high school. It is very exciting to read of the accomplishments
of our alumni and the very special teachers we had and to know that
it certainly has continued. I have been blessed with a wonderful
life – married for 45 years to a man who is still remembered for his
philanthropy and civic and community service even though he passed
away in 1999. I am fortunate as well the “second time around” and
am enjoying a continual honeymoon with a great man. We spend
summers in the Winter Park CO area.

Well,
here we are, most of us 77 years old, give or take a year or two,
and one of the realities is that many of us are leaving this life
for whatever lies beyond. Some of you may feel that I shouldn’t
mention this, but I disagree. It’s a fact of my life that 30% of my
high school classmates are gone for good. For those of you who feel
as I do, if you’d like a list of our friends who have moved on,
email me at
bchraven@pacbell.net. I’ll send you the list, and I’m hoping we
can honor them at our 60th reunion.

I’m looking forward to the class reunion in 2010. It will be our
60th reunion and it will be great to see the classmates who are
still with us. I’m now retired and am enjoying the time I have left
with my daughter and grandchildren.

I am
now retired and turned 77 on December 21, 2008. 2008 was my first
year of retirement and it has gone by very quickly but has given me
more time to visit my daughter and grandchildren in Clarksville TN.
I’m looking forward to our 60th class reunion in 2010. It is a sad
fact that many of my classmates have passed away.

I’m
sorry to hear of the passing of Betty Anne Miller. Just the other
day I was looking at an old photo of my 12th birthday party and she
is in the picture, along with friends Judy Glaize, Gert, Diane
Neighbors, Bobbie Krakoff, Donna Bukey and others.
As we
all hit the ripe age of 75-76 we are starting to lose loved ones.
Just since 2000 I’ve lost two aunts and an uncle and now my cousin,
Carolyn, 2nd Vellani grandchild after me. Now I’m the oldest person
of my big Columbus family. Whew!
I hope
all of you out there are in decent, if not great, health. And I
hope we’re going to have a 60th reunion in two years. I am too far
away to help with that, but I’ve offered to be the class rep, even
tho I live on the western edge of the US. Please, local
classmates! Get together and work on a 60th reunion. I would love
to see you all again. I’ll help with whatever I can. Email:
bchraven@pacbell.net.

A “special thanks” to Carol Middaugh for her dedication to the BHSAA.
I really enjoyed Ed Hamblin’s article re: Bexley historical
information. Our sailboat is gone we are RVing in our Tiffin Zephyr
coach. Our twin 23 year old grandsons are back safely from Iraq (2
tours) and out of the USMC. They made this grandpa proud, as I was a
Marine in the Korean War. Nov. 3, I’ll be 75 and I just paid
lifetime dues. I guess that means I’ll be around for at least
another 10 years.

This
summer I did something I hope all of you will do. After several
years of archiving maternal family photos and historical documents,
I took them all back to Columbus, where most of my family still
lives. My cousin Amy and I bought a bookcase for her living room
and filled it with photo albums, books and pamphlets about the
family home villages, the original family history scrapbook and
correspondence. All these materials are now available to my cousins
and their children and grandchildren.

We are
still enjoying the RV lifestyle. Will be in Oregon, on the Rogue
River, at Four Seasons RV Resort most of the summer. I had a full
knee replacement Dec. ’05 and it is almost 100% on April 1st. I
enjoyed visiting with Tom Montague and Ted Cook and look forward to
more reunions in the future. I always look forward to receiving the
Alumni newsletters. We gave up on sailing due to bad knees. Broke
my heart to sell our beautiful 42’ Catalina. Nancy and I passed our
51st anniversary March 5th and are great-grandparents twice.
