The Bexley High School student newspaper, The Torch has received
the All-American rating from the National Scholastic Press
Association. This overall rating, which is the highest awarded
by the NSPA, is for The Torch staff’s work in the 2007 - 2008
school year. The NSPA also awarded The Torch marks of
distinction for outstanding work in four areas: coverage and
content; writing and editing; layout and design; and leadership.
The staff was led by co-editors Lucy First, Adrienne Liefeld,
and Libby Ashton, all members of the Class of 2008. The staff is
advised by Julie Horger. NSPA is a nonprofit organization
exclusively for high school and other secondary school
publications, such as yearbooks, newspapers, magazines,
broadcast programs, and online publications.
The Torch
has also received a Gold Medalist award from the Columbia
Scholastic Press Association for work during the 2007-08 school
year. The Gold Medalist award is the highest granted by CSPA, an
association for student media that is affiliated with Columbia
University’s Graduate School of Journalism. The CSPA also
recognized The Torch with special “All-Columbian Honors”
in three categories: coverage, writing and editing, and business
operations.

Molly Feesler will fill the position of Athletic Director for
Bexley City Schools starting this fall. She will lead a
department which recently won, for a second consecutive year,
the All-Sports competition for the Ohio Division of the Mid
State League and earned the Ohio High School Athletic
Association’s Meyer Sportsmanship Award for its program
promoting sportsmanship, ethics and integrity. Bexley’s
Athletic Director oversees some 50 coaches and volunteers and
about 500 student athletes in grades seven through twelve.
Ms. Feesler comes to Bexley with 20+ years of experience as a
teacher, coach and administrator. She has taught Mathematics in
the Pickerington Local School District since 2000. Prior to her
service in Pickerington, Ms. Feesler was Assistant Principal and
Athletic Director at St. Francis DeSales High School in
Columbus. DeSales won six state championships during her five
year tenure as Athletic Director.

Television actor and 1992 Bexley grad Josh Radnor addressed the
crowd at graduation ceremonies on June 1 saying, in
part, “You’re probably a little sad and a little scared. You’re
pretty freaked out that something is supposed to be ‘commencing’
here. Our brains want things to stay the same while
circumstances are telling us we have to change.” Stating that
the things in his life he is most proud of are the things he
leaped into, the star of the sitcom HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER
advised the graduates to embrace change.
